How Long is a 10 Person Dining Table?

A 10-seater dining table should be at least 8' long. This comfortably seats 4 people along both sides of the table, with another person at each end. General rule of thumb is allowing 24" of space for each person along the side of the table.

The width of the table is an important factor to consider when a dining table seats 10. A narrow table 36" wide will only allow one person at the end of the table. Wider tables 44"-48" wide can easily accommodate 2 people at each end of the table. This helps a dining room table seat 10 people if your dining spaces cannot accommodate the length of a long table.

When planning to seat two people at the end of large tables, select a pedestal or trestle base design. Solid wood dining tables with legs at the corners make it difficult to seat two people at the ends.

The best size option for a 10-seater dining table varies by the table style. Pedestal and trestle tables typically must be a bit larger for chairs to fit neatly than a table with legs at the corners.

Most 42" x 54"- 72" rectangle tables can self-store 4- 12" leaves. If you have the space in your dining room, get extra leaves. This allows more elbow room at the table.

Following the same rule of allowing each person 24" of space, a 12 seater dining table must be at least 10' long.

Dining Tables for 20 People

Extension options will vary by table style and size. Our dining tables with legs at the corners will have an additional center leg if the table extends longer than 84"

Generally speaking, leg tables have the most versatility in size. They adjust easily from a small size to a long banquet table. For leg tables with 8-10 leaves, we build additional removable center support legs. These extra legs are easy to add when extending the table. 

Pedestal and trestle tables are best suited with a starting size of seating at least 6 people every day. Choose from a standard top that opens in the center for leaves. Other tabletop styles add breadboard extensions, where the leaves added onto the ends of the table.

Adjustments made to the base for large dining tables vary based on size and style. Some pedestal bases will separate when extending the table, keeping it sturdy at the longer length. We may build additional supports to add when fully extending some table styles. All additional support will match the style of the table. 

Our dining tables feature mechanical gear driven slides, making it easy to extend the table. In some extra-large dining tables, we use a wood slide to accommodate the number of leaves.
