How high is a Counter Height Table?
Counter height dining tables are 36" high. This is the most common pub table height. This is also the standard height of kitchen counters and islands.
To compare, a standard dining table is 30" high. Bar height tables are 42" high. Our counter height tables are also available in standard dining height or bar height. Whiskey barrel tables are only available as counter height.
What Size Bar Chairs Will Fit a Counter Height Table?
The standard bar chair to fit a counter height table has a 24" seat height. General rule of thumb is seats should be approximately 12" lower than the tabletop. That is comfortable seating for most people.
Every dining chair style we offer is also available as a 24" bar chair. Bar chairs can be stationary or with a swivel base. Simple, backless counter stools are a great option for saving space and tucking out of the way.
Do Counter Height Tables Extend with Leaves?
Our counter height dining tables have the option of adding leaves to extend the table. The leaves store inside the tabletop and open easily with gear driven slides. Rectangle tables that are at least a foot longer than they are wide can usually self-store at least two leaves. Round tables can self-store one folding leaf.

The combination of these elements results in a beautiful and unique piece of furniture. We offer a personalized decal for your barrel top to make it truly unique.
Choosing the Best Wood for a Counter Height Dining Set
Local artisans in Ohio make every dining set using your choice of solid American hardwoods. Wood options include Red or White Oak, Maple, Cherry, Hickory, Elm, and Walnut wood. Each wood type is strong and durable. Choosing the best wood for your dining set comes down to personal style preference.
Red and White Oak wood has a prominent grain texture. The texture works wonderfully to hide any scratches in the tabletop over time and keeps your table looking good. Light stains on Oak enhance the rustic appeal of the wood, while dark stains minimize the grain variation.
Maple and Cherry wood have a smooth grain texture. With dark stains or warm stain colors, many people cannot tell the difference between the two. With light stain colors, the natural redness in Cherry wood creates a warmer undertone to the finished color. Maple is light colored naturally, making it a great wood option for gray stained tables.
Elm wood has a unique, feathery grain texture that appears exotic looking. Medium dark stain colors, such as Michael's Cherry, enhance the grain. We often pair Elm tabletops with black stained Maple wood bases, which creates beautiful contrast as a 2 Tone counter height dining set.
Hickory has a rustic grain texture, especially showcased in a natural finish or with light stains. The rustic wood grain adds warmth and character in neutral spaces.
We often use Walnut wood in counter height tables with a modern design. Live edge slabs create a stunning focal point as a counter height table or bar. Walnut wood has a grayish, brown natural wood color that complements farmhouse and mid-century modern interior design styles.
