Most rectangular and square coffee tables offer a drawer or two under the top. Drawers help eliminate a cluttered top surface. Completely enclosed coffee tables are also available in some styles. Wood Options for Coffee Tables

Our occasional tables are available in a variety of solid American hardwoods. Wood options include Red or White Oak, Maple, Cherry, Hickory, Elm, and Walnut wood. We also use Reclaimed Barn Wood on request, sourced locally in Ohio.

Red and White Oak wood is well known for strength and durability. Oak is readily available throughout Ohio's forests, making it an affordable wood choice. The grain texture of Oak wood is prominent and lends a rustic, country appeal to finished pieces. Traditional, mission style furniture often utilizes quarter sawn white oak wood.

Elm wood has an exotic, feathery looking grain pattern. Medium stain colors like Michael's Cherry enhance the grain variation.

We often use Elm with Michael's Cherry to contrast Maple wood with black, Ebony stain. The Plymouth living room set uses solid Elm wood with black rope trim accents. The popular Brooklyn style tables have black Maple wood bases and contrasting Elm wood tops.

Maple wood is a versatile hardwood option. Its natural coloring is light, with a smooth grain texture. Popular stain colors on Maple range from light grays and browns to rich dark colors like Ebony and Gunsmoke. The even grain of Maple wood creates a smooth painted finish as well, making it the top choice for white painted coffee tables.

Cherry wood has a rich, warm color tone. The smooth grain texture is similar to Maple wood, with added character and depth. Character grade cherry wood or "Rustic Cherry" will include small knots in the wood to add a rustic appeal.

Hickory wood is the hardest of all the wood species we use. The natural wood tone has a wide range of light and dark color variations. Hickory with a clear finish will enhance the rustic appeal and showcase the natural blonde tones. Dark stain colors minimize the grain variation.

Walnut wood is a top choice for modern coffee tables. Live edge slabs in Walnut wood make a stunning accent table for your living room.

We keep a variety of living room tables in stock, ready for pickup today at the Berlin, Ohio showroom. We also encourage custom size requests. Every table style can be custom sized to fit your family room or living room perfectly. Most custom orders require an 8-10 week lead time for our Amish craftsmen to build the furniture from scratch.

We offer delivery of our furniture throughout the lower 48 contiguous United States. All delivery includes our team bringing the furniture into your home and completely setting up and items requiring assembly.

 

Cleaning and Protecting Your New Coffee Table

We finish our collection of wooden coffee tables with a catalyzed conversion varnish. This durable wood finish protects your furniture and is heat resistant, UV resistant, and waterproof.

Simply keep the new furniture clean and dust free, using a mild soap and water. Cleaners we recommend include Murphy's Oil Soap and Dawn dish detergent, both diluted in warm water. We do not recommend using cleaners with silicone or harsh chemicals.

Wood coffee tables are susceptible to scratches in the top over time. Local glass specialists offer a custom glass top for any coffee table style.

If you are worried about scratches, the wood and color you choose has a lot to do with preserving its beauty. Choosing a tabletop with grain and color variation hides light scratches better than smooth dark tabletops. Distressed tabletops hide scratches well, making farmhouse styles a popular choice.

One of the benefits of solid wood tables is the ability to repair them if damage occurs. Coffee table height makes it a favorite racetrack for Hot Wheels and other child's play. Craftsmen sand and refinish tabletops to make them look as good as new.
