The use of gear slides makes it easy to extend the table by yourself.
Self-Storing Leaves
Most tables at least 42" wide can store 2 to 4 leaves. depending on top shape.
Sawmill Tops
The Sawmill plank is a verstile top. As a solid top, planks run lengthwise. With self-storing leaves, planks run widthwise. (shown here)
Breadboard Ends
Instead of leaves in the center, this option adds 18" leaves on the ends. Best for thicker, distressed tops
*Leaves will not self-store
Solid Wood Pedestal Dining Table Collection
Pedestal tables are a classic, versatile choice for your dining room. At Dutch Craft Furniture of Berlin, we offer a wide range of styles and sizes. Choose a small round or oval pedestal dining table to seat 4-6 people in a cozy dining space. Large dining rooms may opt for a double pedestal dining table that extends with leaves, seating 10-12 people or more.
Pedestal Dining Table Set Options
We offer many options in creating the perfect pedestal dining table set for your home. Start with your solid wood pedestal table. Local Amish craftsmen build each table in your choice of solid American hardwoods. Wood options include Red or White Oak, Cherry, Hickory, Maple, Elm, and Walnut wood.
An Oak pedestal table is a classic option in Amish dining furniture. The prominent grain texture of Oak is an excellent choice for hiding knicks and scratches in a tabletop. Red Oak wood is strong and durable, rated at 1290 on the Janka wood hardness scale. Red Oak is also readily available throughout Ohio's forests, making it the most affordable hardwood option.
White Oak is another common wood type used in furniture. The grain texture is similar to Red Oak but is a bit lighter in natural wood color. White Oak is slightly harder than Red Oak, rated at 1360.
Mission style tables often display White Oak that is quarter sawn rather than straight sawn. Quarter sawn White Oak showcases a unique grain texture from the angled cut of the wood. Straight sawn White Oak is a favorite for rustic and farmhouse dining tables.
Modern dining rooms often feature a Walnut pedestal table. Walnut wood is naturally dark, a grayish-brown color that creates a stunning focal point. We display Walnut wood in the Carlisle Double Pedestal Dining Set, a timeless wood dining table design.
Choosing the best wood for your table depends on many factors including style preference and budget. Prices vary by wood type. Our sales team is happy to answer any questions you may have about a specific wood type.
Complete your pedestal dining set with your choice of chair or bench style. All chairs and benches are available to match any dining table. Finally, choose a sideboard or China cabinet to add storage to your dining room.

Exact sizes vary by the pedestal base you choose. Oval dining tables must be a bit longer than rectangle tops for seating the same number of people. A large, bulky base requires a bigger table size for chairs to fit neatly around the table.
Add greater flexibility by choosing a pedestal dining table with a leaf to extend your table. The number of leaves available depends on the pedestal size and strength. Our handcrafted pedestal dining tables extend easily with gear driven slides.
Rectangle and oval dining tables store 2-4 leaves inside the tabletop. Round or square tables only store one, folding leaf inside the table. Leaf sizes vary from 12-18" wide.
General rule of thumb requires 24 inches per person for a comfortable dining experience. Add extra people easily around pedestal dining tables, as there are no table legs at the corners.

What is the Finish on Solid Wood Dining Tables?
Our Amish pedestal tables feature a catalyzed conversion varnish to protect your table. This durable finish is heat resistant to 220 degrees, waterproof and UV resistant, preserving your solid wood table.
Care and Maintenance of an Amish Dining Table
Amish dining tables require little care and maintenance to last for generations. Keep your wooden dining table indoors in a controlled temperature and humidity. We recommend simply keeping it clean using a mild soap and water. Wood polishes and conditioners are not necessary and often leave a residue on the finish.
Prevent scratches on your new wood tabletop. Common culprits for scratches include cardboard boxes. These boxes pick up grit in delivery trucks and warehouses that may scratch your tabletop.
