Quality Wooden Amish Dining Benches
Providing enough seating for family and friends is an essential component of sharing your home with loved ones. At Dutch Craft Furniture, our beautiful Amish dining benches beautifully pair with traditional-style dining room decor and accessories.
Benefits of Adding a Solid Wood Bench
- Benches Save Space in Small Dining Rooms. One of the top reasons to consider a wood dining bench is to save valuable space in small kitchens or dining rooms. Slide the bench under the table and out of the way when not in use.
- Benches Add Extra Seats at the Table. Another reason to add a wooden bench at your table is to gain seats at the table. A bench that is 60" wide seats 3 people, especially when including small children. Three chairs at the table will take a minimum of 72".
- Benches Lighten the Dining Space. A dining set with matching chairs around the table sets a formal tone in your dining room. Adding a bench on one side of the table opens the space and creates a comfortable, family atmosphere.
What Size Bench Do You Need?
Dining benches are often around 12" shorter than the length of the table. This allows ample room for traffic flow around the dining set without bumping into the corners of the bench.
The width of wooden benches is approximately 12-16", varying by bench style. Standard height for bench seats is 18", matching the height of dining chairs. Counter height benches are available upon request to add seating along your kitchen island.
The ideal length for wooden dining benches ranges from 36" to 76". Benches shorter than 36" are too small for more than one adult to sit. Benches that are longer than 76" are less functional. Adding more people to long benches can make it difficult for those in the middle to get up from the table.
Wooden Bench Styles
Our solid wood dining benches come in a variety of styles. From traditional to farmhouse or modern, there is a wood bench for any dining room. Adding one of our Amish dining table benches to your set creates a unique, mismatched feel that feels lived-in and purposeful.
Farmhouse Dining Benches
Many farmhouse dining sets include a wooden bench that matches the style and color of the table. In some collections, such as the Rowan Dining Set, the bench base is a miniature version of the table base. In other collections, the bench is a simple style that matches the wood and color of the table. Choosing the simple style is often a cost-effective option to save money on a matching wooden bench.
Many farm tables feature plank style tabletops with a lightly distressed wood. Our farmhouse dining benches have the option of matching those details in the bench seat. The benches are available with smooth, matching wood seats or with plank style seats.
Live Edge Dining Benches
Live edge dining benches are a beautiful accent to your live edge dining room table. Live edge benches vary in size, most are around 12-18" wide. We offer locally welded metal bases for live edge benches that match the large dining table bases.
Expandable Dining Benches
Expandable dining benches are a great alternative to finding storage for extra wood chairs. Every bench style we offer is available as an expandable bench. Our expandable benches offer leaves to extend the bench as needed, just like the dining tables.
We often pair our small kitchen table sets with an expandable bench. Consider an expandable bench tucked under a table to push against the wall for everyday use. Move the table away from the wall and add leaves to the table and bench, easily seating 8 people around the small set.
Expandable dining benches are a versatile seating option in other rooms of the house as well. Many people setup the table with 4 matching chairs. The matching expandable bench adds seating in the mudroom or living room. When hosting family for dinner, add leaves to your table and bring in the matching expandable bench.
Wood & Color Options for Amish Dining Benches
Our handcrafted Amish bench seats consist of solid wood materials that will last. The benches are available in your choice of hardwoods including Maple, Cherry, Elm, Hickory, Walnut and Oak. All wood options have a wide range of stain and paint colors available.
We often display wooden benches in a 2-tone finish. Choose a black or white painted bench base with a natural wood seat. We use Maple wood for most painted bases.
The bench seats may feature White Oak or Elm wood to create contrast. Common bench styles with 2-tone colors include the Settler's Dining Bench and Heavy Shaker Leg Bench. Expandable benches are also popular in various 2-tone color combinations.
Some wooden bench styles are available in reclaimed barnwood. Our reclaimed wood is a mix of locally sourced Red and White Oak. Add character and warmth instantly with the texture that only age can create in reclaimed wood.

Keep Your Wooden Bench Looking Good
Benches often show wear and tear on the top of the seat first. Guests may leave light scratches in the wood from rivets on the back pockets of jeans. Toddlers may find benches to be the perfect height for playing with toys. Choosing a wood type with grain and color variation in the wood hides light scratches and keeps your bench looking good.
Now that you are familiar with the options, shop with confidence for your new wooden dining bench. Remember, all dining sets are available with a matching bench, even if we do not display it online.
