Solid Cherry Dining Room Table Styles

All Amish Cherry dining table styles are solid wood, no veneers or engineered wood products. Our local furniture makers source Cherry hardwood from throughout Ohio's abundant forests. Using quality wood and timeless construction methods, our Amish craftsmen build heirloom Cherry dining tables.

One of the most popular options for a solid Cherry dining table is the Biltmore pedestal table. The contemporary style of the large pedestal base perfectly supports the extendable dining tabletop. The modern pedestal creates beautiful contrast to the warm reddish color tones of Cherry. We feature the Biltmore table with a 48x72 boat shaped oval tabletop with 2 self-storing leaves.

Classic Cherry Wood Dining Room Table Colors

The natural character and color tones of Cherry wood are a perfect complement to formal dining tables. The wood grain texture is subtle, creating less color variation than other hardwoods like Oak or Hickory. Often paired with upholstered dining chairs, Cherry dining sets are timeless and elegant.

Most Cherry wood dining tables feature a medium to dark stain color that highlights the warm undertones. Popular stain colors include Michael's Cherry, Golden Brown and Asbury Brown. These stains complement the natural, warm reddish tones in Cherry. We feature these stain colors on their own or with a black table base for 2-tone tables.

Modern Cherry wood dining tables may feature lighter tones such as Cocoa Light. The Modern Farm Leg Table is a favorite Cherry extendable dining table for smaller kitchen and dining rooms. All Cherry wood dining tables are also available in natural, no wood stain at all. Natural Cherry wood tables will darken with time and exposure to light, highlighting deeper reddish wood tones.

Amish Cherry Extendable Dining Table Options

As you look for a table in Cherry wood, consider the many options available in Amish furniture. All table styles are available in Cherry wood; our gallery shows only a fraction of the options. Choose any pedestal or trestle base, or select your favorite table leg style. From simple Shaker legs to elaborate double pedestals, the base style is an important consideration.

Then determine what size Cherry table will fit best in your space. We display popular size options for all table styles, with fixed tabletops or extendable with leaves. Contact us anytime to request sizes not shown online. Our team is happy to build a custom table size for you as long as the table will remain structurally strong.

Most Cherry dining tables for 6 people with legs at the corners start at 66" long. This is the minimum recommendation if you would like 6 chairs to fit neatly. Pedestal and trestle tables start at 72" long for 6 people. Smaller Cherry tables for 4 people start at 36" wide x 48" long, fitting neatly into any small kitchen.

The number of extension leaves available will vary by table style. Most tables that are at least 42" wide will accommodate up to 4 extension leaves and self-store them inside the table. Some custom Cherry tables are available with 6,8, or even 10 leaves to extend for up to 20 people. Talk to our customer service team to discuss options for an extra large Cherry wood dining table.

Finally, all Amish Cherry dining tables offer options for the shape of the tabletop and the edge profile. Small details like adding a beveled edge or opting for a boat shape oval top create an heirloom table perfect for your home. Our Amish artisans are happy to accommodate these custom requests. Take the time to compare the differences in these small details.

Is Cherry Wood Good for a Dining Table?

Cherry wood is an excellent choice for a solid wood dining table. This American hardwood rates at 950 on the Janka wood scale, similar in texture and density to Maple wood. Amish furniture makers finish Cherry wood tables with a catalyzed conversion varnish. This creates a durable, waterproof finish that is heat resistant to 220 degrees.

The subtle grain texture of Cherry wood may show light scratches in the wood sooner that some other wood types. Oak and Hickory wood are a bit harder and have a prominent grain texture, which may hide scratches better. Talk to our team to determine if Cherry is the best wood for your dining table.

Rustic Cherry vs Select Cherry Wood Tables

All Amish dining tables are available in select grade Cherry wood or rustic grade. All Cherry tables shown online feature rustic Cherry unless otherwise stated. Most modern homeowners love the natural wood texture of rustic Cherry. Select Cherry wood is perfect for classic formal styles including Queen Anne dining furniture.

Rustic Cherry wood simply includes the sap wood and boards that may have small knots, filled with a black epoxy. You may see Rustic Cherry labeled as Sap Cherry or Character Cherry as well. The inclusion of the sap wood adds greater color variation and means less waste during manufacturing. Bonus points for Rustic Cherry being an affordable hardwood option in Amish furniture!

How to Clean and Care for a Cherry Wood Dining Table

The catalyzed conversion varnish on a solid Cherry wood table is low maintenance and hassle free. Simply keep your dining table clean and free from dust buildup using a mild soap and water. We do not recommend wood polishes or conditioners which often leave a residue buildup. Further protect your solid Cherry wood table by using placemats or a tablecloth for dinner parties.
