Elm wood is an often-overlooked hardwood option for Amish furniture. Less common than Oak or Cherry, Gray Elm is an American hardwood with a beautiful grain texture. Strong and durable, hardwood bedroom furniture will last for generations with proper care. The Janka wood hardness scale rates it at 830, a bit softer than Oak at 1290.

Classic Stain Colors for Elm Wood Furniture

Elm bedroom furniture has a variety of stain colors available. The feathery texture of the grain is best enhanced with medium stains like Michael's Cherry or Dark Streak. A light stain or natural finish fails to highlight the detailed grain. Super dark colors like Dark Knight or Ebony will cover the exotic looking grain.

Our traditional Heritage bedroom collection features Elm wood with Michael's Cherry stain. The accent rope trim underneath the tops has a black stain, creating beautiful contrast. Michael's Cherry is a reddish brown and the most popular stain on Elm wood Amish furniture.

Black and Elm Wood Bedroom Furniture

Another popular combination for Amish Grey Elm furniture is combining it with Maple wood. Brown Maple wood nightstand and dressers create stunning furniture pieces with Elm tops. The Maple wood traditionally features Onyx or Ebony stain. Other combinations for black and Elm wood bedroom furniture include a black wood bed frame with Elm panels in the headboard.

We offer three different storage platform layouts. All three storage bases have a solid platform to support the mattress, eliminating the need for a box spring.

First, we have the standard siderail drawer unit, adding two spacious drawers on each side of the bed. These drawers start approximately 8 inches off the floor and are compatible with any style of headboard and footboard.

Next, Elm wood beds may have a siderail and footboard drawer unit. This unit starts with a low-profile footboard, approximately 18" high, with 2 drawers. The bed features another spacious drawer on each side.

Finally, the third drawer unit option for Elm beds is the deep to floor, siderail drawer unit. This storage platform includes two extra deep drawers that extend all the way to the floor. The deep to floor drawers are available on all headboard and footboard styles.
