Bring the Vision to Life
A beautiful custom pedestal vision, shown here for a customer in the requested table size. Notice how the end chairs will have to fit the base.
Fitting The Captain's Chairs
A simple modification to the pedestal base keeps the overall design of the table, but the functionality improves for the chairs at the ends.
How Many People Can Fit?
The most common mistake in custom tables is envisioning how the chairs will fit. Bring us dimensions of your dining room & we will do the rest.
Start By Choosing Any Table Base Including:

Leaf Extensions for Trestle Tables
Gear Slides
The use of gear slides makes it easy to extend the table by yourself.
Self-Storing Leaves
Most tables at least 42" wide can store 2 to 4 leaves. depending on top shape.
Sawmill Tops
The Sawmill plank is a verstile top. As a solid top, planks run lengthwise. With self-storing leaves, planks run widthwise. (shown here)
Breadboard Ends
Instead of leaves in the center, this option adds 18" leaves on the ends. Best for thicker, distressed tops
*Leaves will not self-store
Trestle Table Designs: Extendable, Solid Wood Styles
Trestle dining tables are an excellent choice for large dining rooms. At Dutch Craft Furniture, we display a variety of solid wood trestle tables. From traditional and formal, to rustic and farmhouse, there is a trestle base to complement your style.
What is a Trestle Table?
A trestle table is a dining table with a specific base construction. Trestle bases have sturdy support ends with a connecting horizontal stretcher. Table styles range from farmhouse and mission to traditional or formal.
What are standard Trestle Table Sizes?
The elongated design of trestle bases is ideally suited for rectangular or oval tables, seating 6 people or more. Standard sizes for most trestle table styles start at 42" wide x 72-84" long. Trestle bases can accommodate many larger table sizes.
For standard tables, the stretcher in the base is long enough for two chairs to fit between the trestle ends on each side. The trestle base extends the support ends accordingly for tables that are 9'-10' long or bigger.
The style of trestle bases is not as functional with smaller tables as chairs may bump into the base and feel crowded.
Extendable Trestle Dining Tables
Our solid wood trestle tables are available with leaves to extend the table as needed. We offer several types of extensions with any Amish dining table.
The most common way for a table to extend is the tabletop opening from the center to add leaves. Gear slides make it easy for the table to open smoothly. Most tables can store 1-4 leaves inside the tabletop with this type of extension. The number of leaves stored varies by the thickness of the tabletop.
Another option for extendable trestle tables is to add leaves at the ends of the table. These leaves are breadboard extension leaves. Most breadboard extensions add 18" to each end of the table.
Breadboard leaves are best suited for tabletops at least 2" thick. This type of leaf will not store inside the tabletop.
Wood Options for Trestle Tables
Our complete line of trestle tables is available in your choice of solid American hardwood. Wood options include Red or White Oak, Maple, Cherry, Hickory, Elm, and Walnut. All wood types offer a variety of stain or paint colors.
Farmhouse Trestle Tables
One of the most popular trestle table designs is the Farmhouse Trestle Table. The sturdy, rough sawn base is perfect for multi-step, paint and glaze colors popular with farmhouse style. We pair it with a 2.5" thick, built down tabletop to create a stunning focal point in your dining room.
Farmhouse trestle tables have a matching bench available. We often use Maple wood for the base of the table, and solid Rustic White Oak wood for the tabletop.
Mission Trestle Tables
Another common trestle table design is the Heavy Mission Trestle. The supporting ends of the trestle base feature square posts and wooden slats, common elements in Mission dining furniture. Details like the mortise and tenon construction of the base and square corners of the tabletop complete the look. Traditional mission trestle tables are most common in quarter sawn White Oak wood with Michael's Cherry stain.
Contemporary Trestle Dining Tables
Add a contemporary trestle table like our Biltmore Dining Table in your modern style dining room. The bold design of the Biltmore base features a sleek, arched stretcher and U-shaped trestle ends.
Trestle Dining Table Sets
Complete your trestle table set with solid wood dining chairs or benches. All dining chairs are available to match any table style. Add a formal touch by selecting upholstered dining chairs for the ends of the table. Choose a chair size according to the overall size of your dining table.
All trestle table base styles are available on matching benches. General rule of thumb is to choose a bench that is 12" shorter than the length of the table. This allows the bench to fit neatly underneath the table. Benches are available with leaves to extend, just like the table.
